UW Arch Software Solutions

Various computer programs are slowly being introduced in underwater archaeology. Some examples are: wreck databases, artefact databases, 2D mapping, 3D mapping, and 3D modelling/reconstruction. A spectacular example is virtual reconstructions, useful for experimental archaeology, and which will increase in the future.

General software

  • Site Sureveyor, 3H Consulting, UK
  • Maxsurf Plus, from Formation Design Systems, used for 3D modelling/reconstruction.
  • PAST, dendrochronology software.
  • “Web for Windows”. This is a 3D underwater mapping system developed by Nick Rule. It was developed for the Mary Rose project and has since been used on different projects, e.g. San Pedro de Alcantara.
