About everything and going Forth I´ve been tinkering around and with computers for some time. Started out on a Singer System 10, one of the world´s first business orientated multi-tasking commercial
minicomputers. Yes, the computer was made by a company, famous for their sewing machines. It was assembly language, the CPU managed its tasks with a 13 instruction set and it was core memory. I learned a lot about keeping a computer going. And sometimes was
forced to do some extraordinary effort, like when the directory structure, on a 40 MB disc, was thrashed. Well, with the assistance of some bananas, 3 m of wrapping paper, a hex-editor and a night without sleep did I rebuild a usable directory. During
the years I´ve bumped into some other computers. Early on I got an interest in the computer languages that was available on these different computers. So I´ve dabbled in some different computer
languages. Quite a long time ago I heard about something named Forth. Until recently, I´ve just been tinkering with Forth. Not much, just to keep jogging my grey matter. On a recent task I was asked
to look at the strange behaviour of an FTP gizmo, built to fit the ODETTE specs, I´ve made. My first thought was, there´s one more bug to catch. But after some investigation, it turned out that the modem was the
culprit. I´ve added the glossaries in MobileDB format. A button is provided on each page for respective file. With these you can easily carry the glossaries onPalm. Freesco is a floppy
distro, sheltering a router with a firewall. One reason for a floppy distro is that you don´t have to touch the hard disk. That was a good reason in my ears. To make myself acquainted with and gain some knowledge about Freesco I´ve
made some packages to facilitate the life of Freesco and make it more useful. |
