Metaphysical Zero

On The Metaphysical Zero

From The Dictionary René Guénon, Jean-Mark Vivenza, DRG

The metaphysical Zero has no relationship with the "mathematical Zero", which is just a symbol for the lack of quantity, [meaning] the name of a formal sheer and simple nothing (which explains why it is not and must not in any case be considered as a number and cannot be putin any way at the beginning of the sequence of numbers), [and it] is actually identical with Being or non-affirmed Unity.

But this metaphysical Zero, which is identical with non-affirmed Unity is also something "infinitely more", as in René Guénon's own words, who - while taking up the example of silence, which as one knows is quite superiour to non-expressed speech, because it contains in reality all that reveals the "inexpressible" - shows that the metaphysical Zero goes far beyond that bare privation of manifestation, because it also participates in this "inexpressible", therefore in that which is non-susceptible to manifestation because [of it being] fundamentally indeterminable.

[Also] the metaphysical Zero can be compared to an aspect of Infinity by, as René Guénon writes, its principal capacity to contain Unity and as a consequence everything that depends on it.
