The age of a wreck can often be determined typologically from the construction
and from loose objects, e.g. bottles, clay pipes, pottery,
coins, pewter, anchors, cannon, bones and pollen analysis. In the Mediterranean area, amphoras can
be dated according to type. The age of old wood can be determined by dendrochronology and carbon-14.
